Take Shae, a claims assessor who went beyond the call of duty to reinstate a customer’s policy to help cover an accident that followed closely after her daughter had passed away. Or Personal Insurance employee Elizabeth, who helped our loyal customer Wayne Cummings keep his business afloat when she noticed Wayne was covered for melanoma treatment thanks to the type of policy he had with Suncorp Group.

Human-centred design

To ensure our customers are truly at the core of everything we do, we need to understand who they are and what they need. Our human-centered design is a three phase approach that creates solutions grounded in meeting customer needs which is key to delivering meaningful and intuitive customer experiences. The initial phase, known as, Inspiration, involves getting a full understanding of who you are designing for and what their needs are.

Following this is The Ideation phase where opportunities for design are identified and prototyped in preparation for the final Implementation phase where solutions are brought to life and, eventually, to market. This human-centric design means Suncorp products and services can be specially tailored to meet our consumers’ needs.

Our innovation days are about bringing together our diverse and talented people to problem solve, learn, have fun and, ultimately, deliver hundreds of game-changing ideas that will benefit and connect with our customers.

Bill Splitter

Developed in just 24 hours as part of a FedEx innovation day, BillSplitter has gone from IT prototype, to an Australian-first feature and is now an integral part of the Suncorp Bank app.

Jason King from Bank Portfolio BT said the team implemented never before seen technology to create the feature.

“The BillSplitter team has successfully taken a FedEx idea, showcased it to our investors, and have now delivered it into production,” says Jason “It has taken courage and commitment to deliver this unique idea – especially transaction scanning, which will be a first in Australia.”

BillSplitter allows customers to send virtual ‘IOUs’ to contacts within their phone, automatically record incoming payments, send reminder texts to prompt outstanding payees, and deposit money directly into the customer's’ bank account. Essentially taking the often awkward situation of splitting a bill and simplifying it.

Weather Alerts

Suncorp Business Services worked with Personal Insurance to build Suncorp’s first application in the cloud – a new Weather Alerts tool allowing Suncorp to notify customers of severe weather patterns.

Born from one of our innovation days, the weather alert tool started as a tailored communication service. It was then adapted to meet the needs of customers and the Personal Insurance business. The tool now forms part of AAMI’s new Access app, which allows customers to manage their policies and claims directly from their mobile devices.

The Weather Alerts tool was developed and added to the app in less than eight weeks. A result that was only possible thanks to the collaborative culture throughout the Suncorp Group.

Job Sharing

Wendy Ryder and Lisa Scott have been successfully sharing the role of Team Leader of Quality Monitoring since January 2015. They both love the ability to job share as it provides the unique opportunity to take on a leadership role that usually requires someone to work full-time.

Brighter Future Grants

The Suncorp Group Brighter Futures Grants Fund was established in December 2011, awarding grants of up to $10,000 to support health and wellbeing initiatives. We have awarded over 150 grants to employee nominated charities, individuals and community groups.

The Brighter Futures grant will allow the Institute to undertake research into the impact of various diets and exercise on the development and severity of schizophrenia symptoms and accompanying health
